Audio-visual, synesthetic translation of Bulgarian poet, Peyo Yavorov’s symbolist work, “Two Beautiful Eyes.” The poem’s mirrored structure, reflected in the animation through reverse movement, lends itself fluidly to visual representation. The malleable tactility of oil paint on glass– sculpting the image through continual addition and removal of paint– utilizes only one frame. Symbols of life’s conception and venerated beauty contrast with an anticipation of inevitable despair. The subject molds from one symbol to the next, embodying the cyclicality of existence and the unattainable preservation of youth and beauty.
