“I Can’t Hear You” was made specifically for the AP in 3 Film Competition. As part of this local film contest, participants were given 3 weeks (from August 7-27, 2023) to write, shoot, edit and submit a film with a maximum length of 3 minutes and an extra 20 seconds for credits. The competition required participants to include a digital sign in Asbury Park NJ with the date and time, a musical instrument as a prop, and the line of dialogue “Asbury Park is music to my ears”. Participants were also given the theme “sounds of summer” to incorporate into the film.

In our film, “I Can’t Hear You”, the sounds of summer are brought to life from the perspectives of a father and his children during a day at the beach. While the kids revel in the excitement offered by Asbury Parks’ beach and boardwalk on a summer day, Dad’s anticipated “relaxing” day at the beach comes with many strings attached.

So with only 3 weeks to make a film, I turned to my family and friends. My brother in law, niece and nephew starred in the film, and friends and relatives played extras. No professional actors were used in the making of this film. It was a wonderful first time film making experience and really brought to light that it takes a village. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!
