A CHANGE IN MY CITY
DIRECTED BY CARLOS HERNANDEZ
SHORT SHORT | 2 MIN | USA
After the overwhelming frustration that has gone through my mind facing difficulties in the city I call home, I decided to explore the feelings and explain these emotions. With a camera in one hand and a pen in the other I created this to convey the sentiments of regret and regret that I’ve felt as we’ve watched these changes without doing anything. This isn’t only an issue that affects my city, but rather one that is felt throughout the world as new developments occur. As communities it is our job to help our neighbors and it is now our time to act!

DIRECTED BY BRIDGET MACHETE
FEATURE | 90 MIN | DOCUMENTARY | USA
The film has been in production for a few years creating local interest in it. Our story features the history and how Asbury Park is now “a tale of two cities” in one- the east side is the cash cow completely revitalized while parts of the west side need help that aren’t given focus. It features a local family of 2nd and 4th generation Italian Americans who immigrated to Asbury Park struggling with rising prices, rent prices on their family business, school district issues and overall safeness of raising a family in the affordable areas while still trying to keep strong roots in Asbury Park, the place where their family has called home since the 1800s. As we follow this family, we learn more how although the city is in the best shape it’s been, many have been pushed out due to eminent domain, prices and the city fixating on only one part of the city and how this affects a local family and business owners.

Hoops have been used for play since 500 BCE. Unfortunately, naiveté thwarted credit and monetary compensation and so what we know about the Hula Hoop, the true origin of its name and discovery was forever altered. Hula Girl is the true story of the “Aussie” “Australian friend” that brought the hoop and name to Wham-O in 1958. “”Friend” is hardly accurate and a 94-year old named Joan Anderson is finally able to set the record straight.

Made a Movie, Lived to Tell
Directed by Keith Reamer and William Murray
Jersey Documentary | 45 min | Sci-Fi | USA
MADE A MOVIE, LIVED TO TELL is a documentary about the making of a quirky, obscure, definitively DIY shot-in-south-New Jersey science fiction/detective film called HELLFIRE, aka PRIMAL SCREAM. Filming began in 1983. The crew was young, magnificently inexperienced, hopeful. And the film’s script – a futuristic film noir about a tough, dissolute private detective’s mission to wrestle a dangerous, mined-in-space energy source out of the wrong hands was highly ambitious. And there was no money, of course. The stop and start production took over two years and was punished with an endless series of troubles; some wrenchingly serious, some seriously comic. It took a toll on all who were involved, there were fights, recriminations – but it also resulted in lifelong bonds among those involved. MADE A MOVIE, LIVED TO TELL is as much about the emotional residue of PRIMAL SCREAM’s making as it is about its actual production; a heartfelt story of people wrestling with the lingering, bittersweet afterlife of a long completed, yet highly imperfect, creative journey. The story is told through intimate interviews with the director, producer, DP, cast and other crew members, along with archival stills, video, and scenes excerpted from PRIMAL SCREAM.
