When wildlife photographer Tara returns home from a photo trip to the California mountains, she’s beset by violent agoraphobia. Her boyfriend Matthew tries to get her into treatment as she escalates episodes of self-harm, convincing herself that her house has become home to a dark insect brood.

Director’s bio:

Michael Quinn is a writer and director born in Philadelphia. His play GET IT TOGETHER premiered at the Zephyr Theatre in Los Angeles in July 2022. His play THE RIVER EAST was a finalist in the Epiphanies New Works Festival in Waco, Texas. His play FISHTOWN was produced at the Portland Actors Conservatory and the American Lives Theatre Festival in Indianapolis.

Director’s Statement

I set out, in Brooding, to express a horror of our real world. There is no slasher. There is no gun. There is no monster.

This is the story of a young woman who sets out into the world and discovers something new –– a species of insect in the California wilderness –– and brings them home.
