In the 14th century, a Jewish geographer Ishtori Haparchi was the first to document the topography and agrarian practice of Palestine. In the Book of Button and Flower (Kaftor va-Perach; Hebrew: כפתור ופרח), he listed local towns and villages and described crops, fruits, and vegetables that were cultivated on this land by Arab and Jewish people.
